Who we are:
The RAITH Foundation was registered as a Trust in March 2001. It is a Non-Profit Organisation and has tax-exempt status. The Foundation is privately funded, not politically affiliated and does not raise funds from the public.

What we believe:
The RAITH Foundation is concerned that systemic injustice and unfairness prevail in South Africa and seeks effective and lasting solutions, which address this at its roots.

Background to new strategy:
Having learned and grown from exploratory funding in various fields over the past ten years, The Foundation has embarked on a new strategic direction for 2010 onwards: providing funding and support for social justice. We believe that given South Africa’s particular history and current challenges, an investment in social justice is the best possible contribution The Foundation could make to the development of a vibrant, democratic and just society that we could all be proud of.

For The Foundation, implicit in the notion of social justice is the issue of equity and equitable access to resources in particular.  Our definition is thus closely aligned to the idea of fairness and dignity. We believe Government’s role in strengthening social justice is to ensure people have equitable access to resources and for this they should be held accountable.
